Featuring four brand new songs as well as a two Beatles classics and five George Martin orchestral tunes, Yellow Submarine was the soundtrack to the hugely successful animated film of the same name. The four new songs – Only A Northern Song, All Together Now, Hey Bulldog, and It’s All Too Much, were recorded during the same sessions that produced much of the material for another soundtrack – Magical Mystery Tour. As it turned out, the four songs were just about the only contributions from the Beatles; they didn’t even perform their own voices in the film. It was the final UK release to be issued in mono and stereo. The linear notes on the back of the US release were different than the UK version. The album was nominated for the 1969 Grammy for Best Original Score Written For a Motion Picture Or TV Special.
