Her Majesty (Lennon/McCartney)

Her Majesty was originally intended to come between Mean Mr. Mustard and Polythene Pam on Abbey Road, but Paul didn’t like the way it sounded so it was edited out and recycled to the end of the tape, where it was left. The ending stops suddenly because the final chord was originally the first chord to Polythene Pam.

Quotes

“[Paul said] I don’t like ‘Her Majesty,’ throw it away…[But] I’d been told never to throw anything away, so after he left I picked it up off the floor, put about 20 seconds of red leader tape before it, and stuck it onto the end of the edit tape.” – John Kurlander, sound engineer, recalling how Her Majesty came to be placed on Abbey Road

Personnel

  • Paul McCartney – lead vocals, acoustic guitar
