Longtime Beatles producer George Martin dies at age 90

Longtime Beatles producer George Martin has died at the age of 90.

Martin was a comedy record producer with Parlophone before taking on the Beatles. His flexibility and willingness to allow them to record their own material and experiment in the studio helped the Beatles pave the way for innumerable studio innovations on the way to 23 #1 songs in the US and 30 in the UK.

Martin last worked with the band on the remix album Love with his son Giles. He had removed himself from consideration for work on the Beatles’ singles Free As A Bird and Real Love in 1994 due to failing hearing.
