George and Pattie’s Wedding
On January 21, 1966, George Harrison and Pattie Boyd were married at at Epsom Register House, Surrey.
They met on the set of A Hard Day’s Night where she played a fan, and George asked her to marry him that very day.
“George, with velvet-brown eyes and dark chestnut hair, was the best-looking man I had ever seen. At a break for lunch, I found myself sitting next to him. Being close to him was electrifying.”- Pattie Boyd
She asked for an autograph, and he signed with hearts under his name.
“It was really fabulous in the beginning. We were both so young, we were able to go out, hang out, play. He was really the sweetest guy & my family loved him. My mother particularly adored him.” – Pattie Boyd
Pattie declined the proposal and also a dinner date, as she was dating a photographer named Eric Swayne. But she broke things off with Swayne, and began dating George soon after.
A real proposal came during a car ride on Christmas Day, 1965 and the low-key wedding just three weeks later, with Paul serving as best man. John and Ringo were on holiday and could not attend. The honeymoon followed on February 8 in Barbados.
