January 21 - George marries Patti Boyd.
February - the US single "Nowhere Man/What Goes On" is released and reaches #1.
March 4 - John, in a interview with London Evening Standard writer (and close friend) Maureen Cleave, issues is infamous statement, "the Beatles are probably bigger than Jesus." by July, much of the US was infuriated with the comment. "Beatle Burnings" were held in which people publicly incinerated all of their Beatles posters, albums, and all other Beatle collectibles.
April 6 - recording begins for Revolver.
May 23 - the US single "Paperback Writer/Rain" is released (June 10 in the UK), reaching #1 in the UK and US. The LP Yesterday And Today is released in the US. Promos with its controversial "butcher" cover, showing the band wearing butcher aprons with pieces of several baby dolls around them, were recalled after major public outcry and a substitute cover was issued.
June 23 - the band begins their last world tour with a show in Germany.
August 12 - John apologies repeatedly for his statements regarding the band being better than Jesus at a press conference in Chicago.
August 28 - the LP Revolver is released worldwide and hits #1. The album's first single, "Yellow Submarine/Eleanor Rigby" (released August 5 in both the UK and US) reaches #1 as well.
August 29 - the last Beatles concert ever, at Candlestick Park in San Fransisco, during which a firecracker goes off and the band thinks they are being shot at.
November - rumors begin to circulate that Paul was killed in a car crash.
November 24 - recording sessions begin for Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.
December - the LP A Collection of Beatles Oldies is released in the UK and reaches #4.
